How we score

Every food starts at 100. Points come off for amounts above the thresholds that regulators publish, such as the UK Food Standards Agency's front-of-pack levels for sugars, fat, saturated fat and salt, and for additives and ingredients with an official classification. A few points are added for fibre and protein at the levels EU rules set for a claim.

Each change in the app names the rule, the measured value and the export date of the data. When a value is missing we say so and never count it as zero; a score based on limited data is marked as such.

  1. Great fit75 to 100
  2. Good fit50 to 74
  3. Enjoy occasionally25 to 49
  4. Not a fit0 to 24

Your preferences, such as allergies, halal or vegan, add one plain line under the score. They never change the number. Data sources and licences
